Foley Catheters
Foley catheters or indwelling catheters com in all shapes and sizes. That’s why A Better Choice Medical Supplies carries so many different kinds. In short, a Foley catheter is a flexible tube that is passed through the urethra and into the bladder.
The tube has 2 separate channels, or lumens which run down its length. One lumen is open at both ends, and allows urine to drain out into a collection bag. The other lumen has a valve on the outside and connects to a balloon at the tip; the balloon is inflated with sterile saline when it lies inside the bladder, in order to stop it from falling out. Foley catheters can be made of many different kinds of materials, latex, silicone rubber, natural rubber and Teflon coated.
